For the quality stainless steel black, a galvanic process is used to blacken the surface of the material, then polished.  Since it’s not a permanent coating, an attractive antique finish will result from friction during use. 
We therefore recommend that dogs with very light or white coats use a chain made of CUROGAN to reduce the risk of coat discoloration:

The model with assembly chain offers a limited pull, while the swivel prevents the line from becoming wedged as it rotates with every movement. The ClicLock clasp replaces the center plate on this model and ensures that the chain can be attached quickly and easily. The integrated jacket prevents accidental opening of the clasp. This means that the chain does not have to be slipped over the dog's head making it also ideal for dogs with a large head circumference. The links hooked into the ClicLock face away from the dog's larynx, preventing any impact on this sensitive area.
