I adopted a 4-year-old American Pit Bull who had spent eight months in a shelter after her owners fell on hard times. She had also been adopted twice and returned before coming into my life. At 66 pounds, her reactivity was significant (which I did not know when I adopted her), and I personally experienced being pulled to the ground five different times.

From what I could tell, she had spent much of her life without the structure, boundaries, and leadership needed to help develop impulse control. As a smaller female, I simply could not rely on brute strength to safely manage her behavior.

During the first three months, I worked exclusively with positive reinforcement training methods. While well-intentioned, the approach alone was not effective for our specific situation and, quite honestly, it became unsafe for me.

After extensive research and previous success with my GSDs, I decided to try the black, short-version prong collar with the ClicLock, and within the first three weeks, the difference in our relationship and training progress was remarkable. We still have a long road ahead, but I am no longer fearful during walks or training sessions. More importantly, my dog is happier because she is able to safely get out, engage with the world, and succeed in her training.

Why didn’t I return the dog after the first fall? Because beneath the reactivity is an incredible dog. What she needed was the right structure, clear communication, consistency, and a training collar that allowed both of us to build trust and confidence together. Sometimes responsible training is not about force, it is about finding the right balance that creates a safe, healthy, and positive partnership for both the dog and the owner.

...because I have lost 2 of your prong collars due to quick lock disengaging and slipping off while my dog is running around. My only issue is I could use some tips when taking off a link makes the collar TOO tight, and leaving that last one on doesn't give a proper fit. Help!

Fabulously educational customer service. Helped me to graduate my very big Sighthounds to collars specific to their neck size as well a system that supports a backup collar. Looking forward to learn about more products.
